The Deputy Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Hon. Charles Acheampong, unveiled the ECOWAS Free Roaming initiative at the NCA Tower. This initiative enables free mobile connectivity between Ghana and its neighboring countries, Togo and Benin, following a successful program with Côte d’Ivoire.

In his address, Hon. Acheampong emphasized that this initiative marks a pivotal advancement in regional collaboration, allowing citizens to communicate without incurring international roaming fees or needing multiple SIM cards. It will eliminate additional charges for the first 30 consecutive days of travel, fostering increased mobility and regional integration.

The Deputy Minister encouraged the National Communications Authority (NCA) to set clear metrics for assessing the initiative’s effectiveness. Dr. Joe Anokye, Director General of the NCA, noted that the initiative reflects a dedication to strengthening relationships among West African nations and acknowledged the contributions of the Implementation Committees from Ghana, Benin, and Togo in bringing this vision to fruition.

The ECOWAS Free Roaming initiative aims to enhance connectivity, reinforce regional partnerships, and stimulate economic growth throughout West Africa.
